ABSTRACT
Buried Child, Sam Shepard’s 1978 Pulitzer Prize–winning drama, is enjoying acclaim and masterpiece status at the Brooks Atkinson Theater, and it celebrates Mr. Shepard’s belated Broadway debut after all these years. Still, I’m uncertain why whorish Broadway should be seen as the ultimate seal of approval and homecoming for this essentially alienated downtown dramatist.
