ABSTRACT

Alicia Freilich is a journalist, activist, and Zionist in Caracas and the daughter of a correspondent for the Yiddish-language newspaper The Forward. She also teaches literature at the Universidad Central de Caracas. Freilich is the author of the novels Legítima Defensa (Legitimate Defense, 1984), Claper (1987), and Colombina descubierta (Columbus's Sister Discovered, 1991). The essay that follows, written for the anthology King David's Harp (1999), is a display of her unabated enthusiasm for Jewish life in Venezuela.
