ABSTRACT
Kurt Jooss was born on January 12, 1901 in Wasseralfingen in the Baden-Wurttemberg region of Germany near the historic city of Stuttgart. His family owned farm land and his father expected Jooss to inherit and manage the estate. However, Jooss himself was drawn to the arts. Instead of thinking of a career in farm management, his attention was taken up with music, drama and the visual arts. He played the piano and studied singing and drama. Because he felt that he lacked the talent to paint or draw, he took up photography.
