ABSTRACT

Esbjörn asked the audience what they wanted the trio to play, and it was an unusual experience to hear the capacity crowd yelling out relatively obscure titles from the band's string of albums, Winter In Venice, From Gagarin's Point Of View, Good Morning Susie Soho and Strange Place For Snow. These might not seem to be mainstream listening exactly, but those in the know make every effort to hear the trio live. In return, the trio has worked hard at building up a loyal public here in Britain, as well as in most of the other territories in which it plays. It's a live act that's unpredictable, invariably different, with a structure that changes from night to night and venue to venue. As well as featuring Esbjörn 's highly distinctive touch on the piano, it includes a subtle range of keyboard effects, a rather less subtle range of bass effects, and Magnus's incredible expressive range as a drummer.
