ABSTRACT

John Taylor's collaboration with John Surman has matured over a similar time-frame. Like many others who have a foot in the education world, John has formed firm friendships and associations with his colleagues in Cologne, and British audiences will have the chance to see one of these in action in May 2002 at the Bath International Music Festival, when he'll be appearing with the former WDR big band trombonist Henning Berg. As well as this appearance and his own Contemporary Music Network tour, 2002 will also find John in a new collaboration on disc with Maria Pia de Vito and Ralph Towner, plus Steve Swallow on bass. That is recorded just before his tour, and at the same time he is writing new music both for his trio with Marc Johnson and Joey Baron, and for a major solo concert in Cologne.
