ABSTRACT

Aaron Thibeaux “T-Bone” Walker, also known as Oak Cliff T-Bone, was born in 1910 in Linden, Texas. His step-father, Marco Washington, played with the Dallas String Band. As a child, Walker led Blind Lemon Jefferson around Dallas. By the mid-1920s, he was playing at local venues in Dallas, and then began touring with medicine and road shows. He first recorded for Columbia Records in 1929. In the early 1930s he toured with bands led by Cab Calloway, Coley Jones, Lawson Brooks, Count Biloski, Milt Larkins, and Ma Rainey. In the mid 1930s he moved to California and played in clubs in Los Angeles and Hollywood. He recorded again in the early 1940s with the Les Hite Orchestra and the Freddie Slack Orchestra, and continued to play in clubs and with bands across the country. His professional career continued into the 1970s with recordings, club and theater appearances, television work, festivals, and European tours. He died in 1975.
