ABSTRACT

Biological development of teenagers of the same calendar age shows large individual differences in timing during the age of puberty; the age of peak height velocity and sexual development differs widely. In the literature it is indicated that the rate of maturation is related to fatness, especially in women. Most of these studies were of a cross-sectional design. Also in longitudinal studies[1, 2] associations are found between fatness and a rapid maturation. However, the reason for this maturation effect is not clear.
