ABSTRACT

The paper describes the behaviour of an industrial building, in the domain of metallurgy, in service. Because of the technologic processes, the metallic structure of the building is subjected to corrosive agents (aggressive gases, industrial powders, relative humidity of air) which degraded the anticorrosive protection system and led to dangerous corrosive penetration. The appreciation of the technical state of steel structural elements (roof wedges, girders, columns, braces) was done by qualitative methods (visual methods), non destructive tests (Brinell hardness tests, ultrasounds) and the calculation of the effective bearing capacity.

The causes which led to affecting of the technical state of the metal structure include design inadequacies, faulty erection on the site, lack of current maintenance works and periodical repairings during service. The intervening (consolidation included) solutions in order to meet the minimum requirements of structural safety and stability in accordance with the current Romanian standards are also presented herein.
