ABSTRACT

Language is one of the cultural factors that we use in order to differentiate ourselves from the others and to identify with “our own kind”. Whether we accept the metaphorical and metaphysical views of the link between language and ethnicity which give language a mythical and divine essence or the view that the link between ethnicity and language is mostly fictional and created to serve the needs of economic, military and political powers, we are trying to explain the “we-they” divide (Fishman, 1985).
