ABSTRACT

An Ethiopian Israeli boy boards a bus in Tel Aviv. He realises that he has not enough money to pay the fare. Unperturbed. he walks to the back of the bus and he asks. in Hebrew. if someone can give him the eleven shekels he needs. The four Ethiopian passengers dig into their pockets, and the fastest hands over the required sum. The boy then takes a seat. near the Ethiopians. but not next to any of them. which suggests that he did not know any of them personally: he had approached them. as opposed to any other passenger. because they were fellow Ethiopians.
