ABSTRACT

Modern Asian international relations are in a state of disequilibrium – there is obviously no Asian order, and at best, there is a situation of manageable instability even in the aftermath of the retreat of the Taliban in 2001. America tolerated Islamic Jihad as long as it did not affect its physical security and strategic interests. Indeed, the American language of greed created an incentive to seek relations with the Taliban in Afghanistan so as to facilitate American oil interests and pipeline development in the Caucasian region and Central Asia, Afghanistan-Pakistan region. The centre of geo-political gravity is Central Asia-Afghanistan-Pakistan but America and its allies are in the driver’s seat. Globalization marginalized the issue of regional and international geo-politics and was carried away by fanciful declarations about the end of the Cold War, the end of ideology, the growth of capitalism, modernization and Westernization; it also marginalized the issue of politics based on faith.
