ABSTRACT
The paramount consideration in locating such a huge engineering and manufacturing plant was availability of manpower. Nothing would work until the empty wilderness gave way to roads and houses, schools and shops, hospitals and mosques, bank and post office and all the services of a modern township. In so remote a region, Kenana had to provide not only the very basics of life (a roof over each employee’s head, food, light and water) but create a community happy in its way of life, and not static but growing in skills and experience.
