ABSTRACT

From 1563 the Provost was allowed for the upkeep of his household, bread from 2 ½ bushels of wheat weekly, 10 brewings of beer annually (valued at £12 15s.), beef and mutton to the value of £45 yearly,1 24 dozen lb. candles, fodder for his stable, fuel, and £80 for Emptions or miscellaneous provisions. The value of any beer, meat or fodder not consumed by him was entered as an asset to the College under the title Fortuiti Proventus.
