ABSTRACT

During 1550 to 1560 different dealers or sources of supply are named in one year or from one year to the next and the homogeneity of the series in these few years is therefore a little doubtful because of the possible difference of carriage charges. From 1561 to 1566 the charcoal was supplied by two dealers, Bavin and Cooper, sometimes at different rates, while later all supplies came from Bavin. As the two dealers did not consistently supply on different levels the disagreement cannot be safely assumed to be one of carriage and both levels have been used. They are in 1562 12s. per load from Cooper, 13.33s. from Bavin ; 1566 11s. from Cooper, 13s. from Bavin ; 1564 12s. and 13s. both from Bavin. After 1566 there is usually only one rate each year.
