ABSTRACT
Coal, displacing tallwood, was bought regularly for the Brewery from 1585, and for the College irregularly 15861604 and regularly thereafter. I t is best discussed in two periods 1585-1642 and 1664-1830, separated by the gap in records during the Commonwealth. The main source is the Steward’s Books.
