ABSTRACT

The prices tabulated for whole deals are for 10-ft. deals. They are occasionally called dry or dram.1 A gap occurs in the series in 1771-86 when only 12-ft. whole deals were supplied. These have not been used to interpolate prices of 10-ft. deals as their level is almost stationary between 1769 and 1788 while 10-ft. deals are reintroduced in 1787 on a considerably higher level than in 1770 and at a higher price than 12-ft. deals.
