ABSTRACT

VELVET, 1688-1827. Gross 140, Net 130. THESE prices are for velvet for trimming liveries of the Yeomen of the Guard and Chapel Children to 1815 and for the Yeomen only thereafter, that for the Chapel Children being occasionally 1s. per yd. cheaper. The material was the same as that used for Garter robes : it was usually 3-pile but sometimes 2-pile without change of price. Until 1761 the description was rich blue Genoa velvet : from 1762 rich Mazarine blue velvet. The width was not stated but comparison with the amount of material used for lining robes shows that it was between 18 and 24 inches.
