ABSTRACT
The width was 6/4 yds. and 3 yds. went to make a frock. 1670 is the only year with more than one price, viz.
SERGE, 1661-1829. Gross 169, Net 156. This series shows the prices of fine serge bought for lining
liveries, for the yeomen to 1729 and for the yeomen and watermen thereafter. Serge for the yeomen in alternate years 1810-14, however, supplied by a second dealer at 2s. per yd. has been omitted. Before 1688 the colour was black and thereafter blue. I t is described as Padua serge 1730-55. The width was 31½ ins. One price only occurs in all years except 1782 and 1796, both giving 2s. and Is. 6d. per yd.
