ABSTRACT

For gravel shown separately before the Civil War, taking all palaces together, there is a considerable range of prices each year. All the rates occurring each year, apart from payments at the rate of 1d. a load for digging only and rates exclusive of carriage, have been tabulated, and the arithmetic mean of the different rates each year calculated, excluding only a few abnormal rates marked by < >. After the Civil War, the rates for London palaces, which show relatively little variety within a year, have been used to tabulate an annual mean. A few special entries for “ screened,” “ fine screened,” “ tried ” or “ loam ” have been omitted.
