ABSTRACT
Rates other than the predominant 14s. per cwt. have been excluded in 1573 (11.59s. and 12.31) and in 1579 (12.44s.). The first two rates are translated from rates per fother (at 19 ½ cwt. to a fother) and the third is derived from a small purchase of only 12 lb. An abnormally high rate of 28s. per cwt. (quoted at 3d. per lb.) at Hampton Court in 1664 has been ignored.
