ABSTRACT

Africa is the gateway to the East—the link between Europe and Asia—and as such holds the key to the peace of the world. The Governor is right, for African workers have no vote, are denied the right of assembly, freedom of speech and press, and even free movement. Trade Unionism is illegal; they are subjected to pass laws, Colour Bar Acts, forced labour, and other repressive regulations, while over 2,500 youths are interned in concentration camps in India without the right of trial. For a colonial revolt in North Africa would be a tremendous blow to French Imperialism, which does not only exploit the economic resources of these regions, but also their man power for cannon fodder. “Democratic” Imperialism and “Fascist” Imperialism are merely interchanging ideologies corresponding to the economic and political conditions of capitalism within a given country on the one hand, and the degree to which the class struggle has developed on the other.
