ABSTRACT

At 10 a. m. on Sunday, June 23rd, we stopped abreast of a sandbank opposite to Eboe. As soon as we had arrived within a short distance of the town, we were met by a large canoe belonging to King Obie, containing twenty pullaboys on each side; which, with one steering at the bow, and another at the stern, made a total of forty-four men. They took us in tow, and soon placed us abreast of the town. The natives of Eboe are the most expert people with their paddles, and in the general management of their canoes, that I have yet met with : boys not more than four or five years of age are to be seen pulling with the greatest dexterity.
