ABSTRACT

Ileft les Mouillages on the 7th January 1700 in a barque bound for Guadeloupe. She was to touch at Dominica to take a cargo of lumber. This I foresaw would delay me and cause me additional expense, but I was not too displeased as I wanted to see this island and the Caribs who inhabit it. As we entered the channel the wind and sea became so strong that we had to put back to Prêcheur. We set sail again, however, on the ninth and anchored at Dominica opposite the carbet of Mme. Ouvenarde (Warner).
