ABSTRACT
Like the Soviet Union, Soviet Jews are no longer a political fact or a juridical category. 1 However, without an agreed-upon categorical grouping for hundreds of thousands of people who lived at least part of their lives in what was formerly the Soviet Union, it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to discuss their ‘identity’.
