ABSTRACT
It is commonplace for American leaders to tell our people and the world that given the enormous stakes — economic, political and strategic — that the United States has in the Pacific-Asian region, slighting it would be unthinkable. Indeed, some individuals now assert that Asia is more important to America than Europe.
