ABSTRACT

In the post-Cold War international market, modern armaments are increasingly being traded like other ‘normal’ commodities. 1 countries can arouse suspicions in a way that trade in other commodities would not. In the context of other complex political, economic, or territorial issues, national weaponry procurements are often perceived as threatening other countries. These perceptions may stimulate a regional arms race that may in turn generate tensions and misunderstandings, and eventually escalate to war.
