ABSTRACT

The attack on Pearl Harbour happened while we were still in Tobruk. We were already quite used to the presence of Americans in the desert. The U.S. Military Attaché, Colonel Fellers, was a frequent visitor and especially to 13th Corps H.Q. There were a number of American observers who had come to watch the behaviour of such weapons as the Stuart tank. They had avoided actually taking part in the fighting but when on 10th December Italy and Germany declared war on the U.S.A. they were able to try things out for themselves. The war in the Far East was soon to have its repercussions in the desert.
