The Israeli–Jordan Peace Agreement: A Missed Opportunity

Great cries of exhilaration were heard in Israel, from the Left and the Right, blurring the boundaries between government and opposition, when late Prime Minister Rabin announced to an overjoyed Israeli public the conclusion of a peace treaty with Jordan in 1994. Finally, it was said, and felt, the long-standing 'friendly' and 'intimate' relationship with the 'moderate' and 'pro-Western' monarch was formalized and institutionalized, thus eliminating, once and for all, the abiding threat of the Eastern Front.
