ABSTRACT

The Administration of Football in the Twenty-First Century

Pat Day

Pat Day reflects on likely trends in the administration of football in the twenty-first century. In particular she considers the English FA’s attempts to rid the game of hooliganism and the resulting change to the relationship between football authorities and the government, the changing role of supporters in the running of the game, the development of Centres of Excellence, and managing the demands of club and national playing success. The significance of staging major international football tournaments is also examined.
