ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the concepts of land, air and sea and their physical attributes and properties. It describes “land” as a legal concept and examines the extent of land at the surface, below ground and above the surface. The chapter discusses the rules of law for determining the physical boundaries of land. For an isolated family in a pre-history economy, ie mainly hunting and cultivation for immediate living needs, land should be sufficient to provide space for all their needs, particularly for shelter and cultivation. Hot phenomena is a coined expression to cover naturally occurring underground hot strata or heated waters. For the most part undomesticated animals and birds are wild and free to roam about the country unhindered. Domesticated animals are another story and live for the most part in a long-term mutually dependent state with humans — they are not naturally wild and are owned unless cast into the wilderness.
