ABSTRACT
This chapter shows what is involved in commissioning a new property. It considers the contractor’s and others’ responsibility before and after handover and examines how the new building is brought into property and facilities management. The chapter describes the range of matters which must be dealt with by the occupier or professionals involved and compulsory purchase involving reinstatement of a home or business in alternative accommodation. It outlines system for property management in a workplace or home. In practice the owner’s property objective, the size of the organisation and business management policies on property, staffing and outsourcing will determine who will in fact deal with these concerns. The manager should be assured that all services are up and running and that there has been compliance with the health and safety requirements for their installation and future maintenance. A compulsory purchase usually means that the claimant must find alternative accommodation suitable for the business or the family home.
