ABSTRACT

Regulation 4(8) of CAR 2006 requires the duty holder to assess the risk from the asbestos material located. The number of systems used for varying complexity was almost as many as the organisations involved with surveys. However, the risk assessment needs to take into account how likely people are to be exposed to asbestos because of human activities which may damage the material. Each parameter is usually given a set of bands and scored accordingly. The sum of the scores for each assessment gives the overall risk assessment for the material. The 'asbestos type' in this system does not take concentration into account. An environmental clean should be carried out by a licenced contractor as soon as possible, and the beam encapsulated with calico and a proprietary sealant. The floor tiles are wet washed frequently but polished less often; the material assessment is very low but the priority assessment is higher than for the box riser because of the polishing.
