ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an explicit approach to communication, most modular systems use the concept of a personal tutor to help the student on the modules they should undertake. Staff are expected to advise on all aspects of the modular course, helping the student to develop a focused programme, but without enhanced communication of module detail. This can be resolved by moving the module descriptions into a more explicit framework. The methods: away-days, processes nearly all modules have been written in an explicit and outcomes-driven format enabling colleagues and students to have a clear understanding of the module content and its method of delivery and assessment. The away-days are effective in motivating, focusing and energizing staff to adopt and achieve change while the student input allows the process to be achieved. As the pressure on staff, in most educational establishments, staff often become unable, to invest substantial amounts of time and energy in new ideas without the support of such process.
