ABSTRACT

The model of the learner that I believe higher education should aspire to in fostering high quality learning is essentially one embracing the principles of adult learning (eg, Knowles, 1978; Rogers, 1983) and heeding the findings of recent research into student learning as well as the wisdom arising from the practice of teaching (eg, Entwistle, 1992; Gibbs, 1992; Ramsden, 1992).
