ABSTRACT
Much is currently made of the dual demands placed on academics today by their sometimes conflicting responsibilities in the fields of teaching and research. We see them as being indivisible and mutually supportive: teaching which is not based on sound current research is as much of a clashing gong and a clanging cymbal as research which is held as the esoteric prerogative of the isolated ivory-tower dweller.
