ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we explore the issue of time as it relates to assessment, especially as it impinges upon students and lecturers. We look at assessment as a complex, human interactive process that arouses strong feelings and requires the development of management skills and strategies. We suggest ways of looking at issues of efficiency and effectiveness as they apply to assessment, and in particular as they relate to the values held by some of the stakeholders in the educational process. We explore attempts to link teacher performance and assessment and discuss ways that student performance can be monitored and recorded.
