ABSTRACT

SUMMARY Are there any rules when it comes to the graphic design of flexible learning materials? How can the layout and ‘feel’ of materials be used to enhance student learning? What is the value of an institutional house-style?

In discussing the details of these design issues, participants in this workshop were able to articulate some of their ideas about what constitutes a good and effective design and what doesn’t. By bringing these ideas together, the group was able to clarify some of the issues that need to be considered when designing a house-style for flexible learning materials.
