ABSTRACT

SUMMARY This chapter describes how a supportive model of learning being developed by the author may help to inspire distance learning students during their educational experience. The model recognises the difficulties distance learners may face at the beginning, during and at the end of a course, and places great emphasis on the relationship that develops between the student and tutor during a course. This relationship is concerned with the mutual trust that is needed between the tutor and the student and which could provide the student with the confidence they need to develop and, in so doing, inspire their learning.
