ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to focus the trainee's mind on the requirements, expectations and statutory demands of a newly qualified teacher (NQT). It explains the most recent demands from the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE, 1999) as to the arrangements for induction of the NQT. These requirements commence from May 1999. Clear direction is given to trainees regarding the induction period, what this entails, and the expectations of schools from the NQT in their new school.
