ABSTRACT
Words are usually thought of as the most significant units of meaning, although it is only in a sentence that thoughts can be expressed. Words are only labels in comparison. The first thoughts of a child need to be expressed in single words–‘I have to use words when I’m talking to you’–and words are the more significant as they extend their vocabulary.
