ABSTRACT
The Transit satellite navigation system has been available for commercial use since 1967. The system comprises some five operational satellites in near circular polar orbits at a height of approximately 600 nm and having an orbital period of about 105 minutes. The orbits form an almost stationary birdcage in space, within which the earth rotates.
