ABSTRACT
The circumstances that can cause a passage plan to be abandoned in favour of an alternative can be many and varied. Some of these circumstances are more predictable than others. If they are predictable, contingency plans should be prepared beforehand and kept in reserve. These alternative plans could cover periods from just a few minutes to several days (see also Chapter 21).
