ABSTRACT

For a number of years AASA has been working toward developing a process for guiding the professional development of school executives, making it both portable and accessible to executives in the field via a decentralized network of centers, and subsumed under the direction of a National Executive Development Center. The Diagnostic Executive Competency Analysis System (DECAS), described formally in the last chapter, is a response to the need expressed by AASA for a professional guidance system with focussed diagnostic power, upon which a systematic approach to action planning with realistic growth targets for individual executives could be based. In the previous chapter the emphasis was mainly on the diagnostic aspects of the system — together with its rationale.
