ABSTRACT

The Nuffield Advanced Mathematics Project was set up in 1990, primarily in response to the opportunity offered by increased access for students to technology. The courses will be available from 1994. The project aims to encourage a larger proportion of each cohort of students to study advanced mathematics, and to engage them in more active ways of learning and in appropriate use of technology. Modelling is an integral part of the material. There is an emphasis on the process of setting up a mathematical model, thinking about the modelling assumptions, and exploring alternatives.
