ABSTRACT

In this book we have attempted to introduce you to various aspects of teaching that are more or less within your control which you can therefore influence to a greater or lesser extent. In Chapter 1, we outlined the values and principles on which the book is based. These included qualities of open-mindedness, responsibility and wholeheartedness and the need for analysis within a real life political, social and economic climate, based on evidence. Central to this analysis are notions of the need for alternative perspectives and for the analysis to be contained within a moral framework and the idea of managing oneself, people and resources. We see these issues as threads that run though the whole book and provide its principal justification.
