Going the Distance: Using Technology in Human Services Education

Currently, the majority of higher education institutions in the United States has begun distance education programs. The United States Department of Education reported that as of 1995, about 25% of all institutions of higher learning offered complete degree programs through distance education courses, and this number is rapidly growing (Matthews, 1999). According to technology research conducted by the International Data Corporation, 2.2 million college students will be enrolled in distance-learning courses within two years (IDC, 1999).
