The Utilization of Technology in Graduate Schools of Social Work
Social workers enter the profession because they are extroverted "people-persons" who enjoy interaction and communication with others. They often shy away from words like "research" because that puts people into a "guinea pig" category of testing, numbers and data. Likewise there is a tendency to be suspicious of computers that will also come between them and human contact with those in need. How-
ever, social workers now find themselves in a digital economy that poses challenges to the profession. There are new demands from health and social service agencies for more cost control, outcome measures, quality performance and information technology. Whether social workers like it or not, they must enter the digital age.
