ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Trinity University and Hawthorne School partnership since the first case study written ten years ago. This new perspective analyzes the teacher education program-particularly beliefs and attitudes about it and changes made to the program-with an eye to two primary themes: preparing future teachers and Hawthorne's Core Knowledge curriculum. To gain a varied insight, Felicia Frazee, a current Trinity teacher education candidate, surveyed and interviewed Hawthorne teachers. Trinity University was a charter member of the Holmes Group. The initial national agenda of Holmes was to make teacher education more rigorous by creating standards and conditions for universities and schools to work together. Leadership is an important ingredient for a successful partnership. A survey was administered to all of the Hawthorne teachers at a faculty meeting. The teacher survey consisted of questions about the intern program, Core Knowledge, and the relationship between Trinity University and Hawthorne.
