ABSTRACT

The Narbonne fragment therefore remains an attempt, Schiller’s attempt, to realise, in a drama written and devised by him, his reflections on the technique and style of the drama as paradigmatically realised by Oedipus Rex. In doing so Schiller relies on his model so that the plot almost exactly matches the events in Oedipus Rex, whilst the content and spirit of the play belong to a modern world.
