ABSTRACT

The school is an institution created by society with the main purpose of providing opportunities to acquire factual information, develop skills, and learn to think. The main objective of the school is the full development of each student’s character and intellect, personal and social relationships, and academic achievement. Thus, the school is an institution interested in students as persons and their total development. Children, youth, and adults attend school to become successful learners; that is, to increase their knowledge of facts and skills and to develop thinking strategies. If learning is demonstrated in these areas it is said that there were desirable outcomes of schooling (Asche, 1989; Contreras, 1988; Nettles, 1991).
